The story of the Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust began with a simple contribution to a generous cause.

The late Mrs. Menaben, mother of the late Mr. Kirtilal Manilal Mehta, was a dynamic woman who believed in the ultimate power of giving back to the society by donating food, money, and building a sustainable future for the underprivileged.

She handed a sum of ₹1,000 to her grandson, Mr. Kishor Kirtilal Mehta. He along with his wife Mrs. Charu Mehta, and the Late Mrs. Rekha Sheth further contributed to the legacy of care, and made a permanent mark on the history of the healthcare sector of India.

Mr. Kirtilal Manilal Mehta came from humble beginnings, born in a small town in Palanpur on February 07, 1907, Shri Mehta joined his family business in Rangoon, Burma. Having lost his father at a very young age, circumstances led him to be independent and responsible. As a young man with great ambition, Mr. Mehta set up an independent business in Mumbai under his own name. He had a keen eye on business opportunities and was able to spot the potential in exporting diamonds to Europe.

Kirtilal Mehta Charitable Trust

Born to a mother who propagated ideals of charity and community service, and married to a woman who strived for the betterment of the underprivileged, Mr. Kirtilal Manilal Mehta, influenced to give back to the society, founded the The Kirtilal Mehta Charitable Trust. It worked towards providing consistent care to the people, aiding the socio-economic growth and independence of 108 rural villages.

The Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust is a Public Charitable Trust formed in 1978 by Late Shri Kirtilal Manilal Mehta. The Trust not only manages Lilavati Hospital & Research Centre but also carries out numerous other charitable initiatives all over India. Taken forward into this century by Mr. Kishor Kirtilal Mehta, and his wife Mrs. Charu Mehta, the LKM Trust has always been a sanctuary for the underprivileged, providing world-class medical facilities to all.

Soon after the success of The Kirtilal Mehta Charitable Trust, Mr. Kirtilal Manilal Mehta founded The Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust in his benevolent wife's name, The Late Mrs. Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta. This led to the occupancy of a small plot of land in Bandra, Mumbai, and the Lilavati Hospital was brought to life. A hospital that started off with merely 22 doctors, born out of the charitable spirit of the Mehta family, now stands as a beacon of hope and health for millions.
