While developing the SEWA wing of Lilavati Hospital And Research Center, we realised that there are around 180,000 new cases of breast, uterus and cervix cancer that could be completely cured if detected in the early stages.
Thus, we set forth to make wholehearted efforts to combat ignorance, detect early signs of cancer and create self-awareness among women. We opened our doors to underprivileged women, where we enlightened and educated thousands of women about the early signs of breast cancer, and offered immediate treatments for those struggling, in collaboration with Lilavati Hospital’s Gynaecology and Oncology department.
Apart from that we organized Free Cancer Awareness and Screening Camps for women in the year 1999, where we allowed 100 women to register for a free PAP smear, mammography, and complete physical examination. Upon the positive feedback we received, we opened regular cancer screening services at the hospital.
